VIRTUAL LIFE MEDIA in the world of Second Life(tm)

Lets go waaaaaaaaaay back.. way way back to the beginning

It is 1969 and someone shows you this far out video. You can shop from home??? WTF???? Yes no joke, though the concept of shopping from home goes back to the late 1800’s (Edward Belemy’s 2000 looking backward for example) this was still a new concept to most people. Sure many had ordered by cataloged, but this speaks of actually seeing the items in the store you are going to purchase without leaving home.

Well lets take that a step further. Now that we have solid proof that ordering products from home is a valid way of doing business and not some whimsical idea, I have one thing left that bothers me. I simply don’t trust that the sizing is going to be right. Shirt makers often seem to make larges extra large and mediums large and smalls medium. I am a very picky shirt man. I’ve been burned before thinking something would fit.

So enter today’s world with avatars becoming commonplace. Now you can not only order products online, you can do to the store online. I love fantasy avatars and will continue to have them, but what if I could scan myself for exact measurements so that my avatar looked just like myself. Then, I take this “me” avatar to a clothing store in virtual reality.

Perhaps like the Matrix’s cool gun scene

or in a more traditional way

We enter the online store and are able to put on clothing and see how it will look on our actual body frame. Then we click to purchase, it grabs the measurements from our avatar and sends us the exact size we need!!! OMG!!! Now I know we all love to drive to the mall , park, and walk around every shop to look at 1000 items we don’t want for every one that we do. I’m sure nobody wants to spend 30 minutes shopping for exactly what they want instead of 6 hours right???? No takers on spending that time doing something else?

Well, its no doubt people do enjoy the shopping experience. It is something to do with friends. Still, you can do that online too!
You and 10 of your friends from all around the globe can shop together. 100 of your friends even. The future is wide open in virtual reality and reducing the gas/time expense of shopping is just one tiny way it can enhance our lives.

This little short film goes on to talk about the “household monitor screen”. I can easily see this reproduced in a virtual reality manner. Your house and everything going on around it that you wish , could be displayed in 3D with every aspect of your home from the stove to the sprinkler system outside could be turned off and on from the comfort of any location with broadband as you interface with your home from your home in cyberspace.

So much potential…

I leave you to think on the other amazing ways we can improve our lives and decrease our needlessly wasted time.
